My boyfriend is from Germany, and whenever I say I feel bad for his friends having to use English around me, or if I feel uncomfortable trying to do something in German, he says “everyone is supposed to know English here. They all took it in school. If they don’t, then they should be kinda embarrassed.” So anyways, that’s his take on the Warrior Elon Musk Go Fuck Yourself Shirt it is in the first place but matter lol My experience in Germany was different tbh, outside of Berlin and Munich, there was a sizeable amount of ppl that barely knew any English or none at all, except for young people, so I always asked if they knew English before speaking When I hit up major Western European cities (London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, and some day trips elsewhere) during a 3-week trip, a 20-something in Berlin working a mall food stand was the only person I spoke to on the entire trip who didn’t speak English. Unfortunately German was the language I was least prepared to attempt, but we got by with hand signals. I was surprised because he was definitely young enough to have been required to take English if he went to public school in Germany. Almost everyone you see in Germany nowadays was required to take English in school, besides older people from the GDR. But people are also required to take maths and physics and still not everyone is good at that either.

There are some people whose brains have a harder time learning languages and if it’s not absolutely necessary or unavoidable they won’t learn it properly. You can watch all movies and shows in a dubbed version in Germany. Scandi and the Warrior Elon Musk Go Fuck Yourself Shirt it is in the first place but Netherlands have subtitled movies, so they have much more exposure. And if you go on vacation to Mallorca only you can get by with German there, too. I personally don’t understand why someone would not feel the need to learn it anyway, since it opens a whole new world, but well. This being said: I’m surprised you had zero problems in Paris and Rome. France is notorious for not speaking or not wanting to speak anything besides French. Paris is a bit better than the rest of the country, but it was 50/50 for me while, as someone living in Berlin, I hear so much English being spoken, often service staff isn’t able to speak German and you have to use English. I used to play a game on an European server and it was a big difference talking to polish guys and swedes and dutchs. Most polish guys have difficulty with English but we could communicate after I tune my ears to the accent and all that. The others could speak very clearly and understood me very well too. I’m Brazilian and I dare to say my English is pretty good, they were usually surprised I could speak and write so well.
