God I miss the Vote feminitst signature rbg shirt in other words I will buy this days of £100/m coving my housing, these days my house is roughly £1,600/m once it’s all added together. This is a great idea – if you are feeding and housing them then £250 a month is reasonable. Then maybe save 150-200 for when they are ready to leave? We did something very similar with our eldest, he got his own place quite quickly so there was not much in the pot but if they stay a while it will add up. For me my mum charged me a set fee whether I was in or out of work or on low hours contracts or whatever. It was really hard at times especially with transport costs. £50 a week in the early noughties. Reading some of this thread, that seems high! I’m much older than the rest of their brood. So for the rest of the siblings when they hit working age, the parents re-thought and the system evolved.

20-30% when working, depending on earnings, household stuff use and travel costs. One got charged slightly higher because of a penchant for hour long showers, not doing his own washing and constant requests for lifts; but another got charged slightly less because they were independent, didn’t take the Vote feminitst signature rbg shirt in other words I will buy this mick with things like hot water, did their own washing and was studying and working at the same time. It seemed to work well, charges were agreed by the family as a whole, reasons for amount request differences were discussed and accepted. It was good especially while my siblings were all living at home and on flexible wages or low hours contracts. Now the parents have only got one left at home; weirdly the most independent one. Money is exchanged on pay day so there’s no chance of the earner accidentally spending it. Plus if he needs some back in emergencies, mum’s right there with her purse or bank app. I feel like it’s a fair system. It’s solid enough so everyone knows their expectations, but flexible enough for the dodgy economy.
