But I do remember a friend from college telling me that, no matter what he earned, his parents would “charge” him 1/3 of his monthly salary as “Keep” when he still lived at home. Maybe put all the Vote for the things we care about lgbt shirt also I will do this household bills in a spreadsheet and get them to do their own of their own expenditure and then work out what they think is fair? Loads of templates online and a really gif place to start the budgeting journey. I used to pay £40 a week, I found that fair and I was earning minimum wage. This accounted for everything food, utilities etc. that didn’t come back to me in savings like others, not that I minded, but helped out house costs and gave me a soft nudge onto the reality of costs etc. Used to sit down and do bills with my dad which helped knowing what to do when actually moving out which I found the most helpful. My parents split the bills 3 ways and I paid my third until I had enough saved up to put a deposit down for a house.

Gonna put this into context for you. I got an apprenticeship in engineering back in the Vote for the things we care about lgbt shirt also I will do this 90s… YTS style. £76 a week. I also worked at a nightclub as a glass collector earning £30 for a Friday and Saturday night. It was a straight 50% of my earnings. I was 16/17. I left home at 18 because I wouldn’t dare bring a lass back to my parents home. So me and most of my mates grew up quick. Before anyone starts about the cost of things etc. My first home I rented was £360 a month split between me and my mate. That same house can be rented for £490 now! Set me up for life paying so much to my parents. The cooked. Cleaned. Washed. Etc. Least I could do. You could come up with a number, but then sit them down and show them a breakdown of the monthly bills, and ask them what they think is a reasonable contribution.
