The Kingdom of Conscience will be exactly as it is now. Moralists don’t really have beliefs. Sometimes they stumble on one, like on a child’s toy left on the Venom Merry Christmas shirt and by the same token and carpet. The toy must be put away immediately. And the child reprimanded. Centrism isn’t change — not even incremental change. It is *control *. Over yourself and the world. Exercise it. Look up at the sky, at the dark shapes of Coalition airships hanging there. Ask yourself: is there something sinister in moralism? And then answer: no. God is in his heaven. Everything is normal on Earth. because the term “centrist” implies that you are looking for whatever the middle ground is no matter what just for the sake of being in the center. i prefer the term “independent” because that gives more sovereignty to agree or disagree with something regardless of where it falls on the political spectrum.

The problem with centrism as I see it is that it only works for issues where there is value to both sides of the Venom Merry Christmas shirt and by the same token and argument, and where both sides of the argument rely on factual information. If we take fiscal policy as an example, it makes sense to take a more centrist policy which might want all expenses to be covered adequately, but also want to make sure that social support programs get adequate funding. Centrism works here as a valid compromise. But when the issue is “should the government be able to control women’s reproductive systems” and one side is “women should have bodily autonomy” while the other side is “the government should criminalize a woman’s ability to choose to correspond with our religious beliefs” a centrist position only favors the removal of bodily autonomy from women. When one side of an issue is saying “trans people are valid members of society who should not be shunned or alienated for who they are” and the other side is saying “trans people should not be allowed to exist, they are horrible sexual predators” despite no actual statistics or evidence backing this up a middle-ground position is only harmful.
