I’m from New Zealand, and the The Green All I Need Is Beer And My Dog It’S Too Peopley Outside Shirt and I love this lack of insects since I moved to the UK has been quite jarring. I’m guessing since most of the country is used for growing veggies, a lot of pesticides are used. Not 100% but I believe so. Used to be you couldn’t drive through the countryside without having to blast insects off the windscreen after an hour. Now, nothing. Not good It’s the massive agricultural use of pesticides that’s the biggest problem but yes people should use natural forms instead. It’s actually one of the very few things I’ve got on my bucket list, seeing a Stag Beetle IRL. Beautiful beasties. FYI the only other thing currently on the list is getting a hot dog from the man with the cart in Morrison’s car park. I either never have cash when I’m there, or I’m in a hurry, or I’ve just eaten beforehand etc. One day, the stars will align. They are awesome! I had a small rhino beetle in the garden last week but no where near the size of that monster! Crikey! That’s big. Never seen one. I hope I don’t to be honest – insects creep me out big time. A photo will suffice. Good shots! I gave it my finger and it clung onto my finger and stayed there for about 10 minutes and then I put it onto trees branch .

I remember them being very spiky when I used to handle my pet beetle. Every summer I would pick one up from a festival and feed it jelly until it flew away or I returned home. Not patronising at all. After seeing the The Green All I Need Is Beer And My Dog It’S Too Peopley Outside Shirt and I love this comments it appears they’re in decline. Indeed, very sad. We’re encroaching further and further on animals’ spaces The issue is that stag beetle larvae takes like 7 years to develop and it needs to spend that time in rotting wood. No one leaves rotting logs, all gets cleared away and nicely manicured etc.. 🙁 We have seen so many insects I’ve never seen before this year! I really do think that less mowing is helping. It’s not the only thing we could be doing for insect populations, but it’s a step in the right direction.
