Speaking from a strict doom-and-gloom standpoint, if there’s something wrong with the food and people get sick from eating it who weren’t supposed to be at the event, there may be an insurance issue? But yeah, outside that… People can be cruel. I don’t get it – maybe “You’re supposed to be working, not eating that food you didn’t pay for!” But, again, who cares? I worked for a large company that would order massive amounts of food every Friday. It would be set out by around 3:00 or 4:00 and would sit, festering, unheated and unchilled, until 5:00 when folks were allowed to eat it. It would then sit out, in that temperature danger zone, until maybe 7:00 or 8:00 and then someone would put it in the fridges. Those daring folks are the ones that would be bitching if the cleaning people were ate it, because they were planning to eat three day old leftovers that the entire office had breathed on and picked through while it sat at a most-certainly-not-safe temperature in the break room. Wtf. I work at a bank and its more or less a tacit understanding that if you don’t want the staff to have any free food, you put your share in the fridge. Or its fair game for the night screw

Well his boss found out, chewed him out, made him get the bag back, dumped them out and demanded he count every one to make sure they were all there. So he did his “best” but seemed to lose count and had to restart anytime the boss came around. I can tell you as a former corporate bigwig, this stuff happens ALL the time. I had a Janitorial job when I was young and got scolded for just looking at the food. Later in life when I was in positions of power, I would invite people to come finish off the food that was left after our meeting was over. It was always stupid to me that we just threw all that away.
