Back in my youth, I once worked for a Temp Agency and was tasked with cleaning and organizing a corporate event at a large financial institution. They had this HUGE banquet table filled with basically untouched food. Like, hot chicken, vegetables, ect. Every time the people would let them eat because they’d always order a ton of good food and eat like half of it. However it wasn’t technically allowed despite the people working there telling them it was fine, and it was usually never a problem because they were there after everyone else had gone home. Well one day, the one asshole of the building stayed late and saw them eating, so he reported them. Thankfully they had a union so they got to keep their jobs, but they couldn’t work at that building anymore and were moved to a different one. It’s absurd that they’d rather waste fairly expensive amounts of food rather than give the employees something that might make working there a little less shitty.

The leftovers were the only thing they did “wrong” so he used it. Jesus, they’re cleaning and sanitation staff, not chattel. Why do people look down on cleaners and garbagemen? Try doing their work and see if it is so easy… Corporate/formal environments fucking hate it when employees perform basic human functions, such as eating, sitting, resting, going to the bathroom, talking, etc. Sometimes they’ll shift the blame and make up bullshit like “oh, some client once saw the staff having a snack and thought it was unprofessional, so now it’s policy that no one eats while at work. Can’t go against those important clients, you know? Hey, don’t look at me, it’s just company policy, we don’t make the rules.” (they do make the rules)
