Interesting, whenever my company has an event involving food, they always provide to go box and people always box it up afterward. No wasted food, and employees are happy that they also get to bring home some nice food. I was a bartender for an event at my university and there was so much leftover food they were just giving it out to anyone who wanted it. You aren’t a licensed catering company (otherwise you wouldn’t hire one), so you can’t give food to the general public. Doing so would put the company at massive legal risk if anyone got sick. To be fairer, I think that just proves the unjust system of laws we live in more than it does absolve the company of their food waste sins. Depending on the situation, this is pretty bullshit line. If this is a catered event, someone else brought and cooked the food to a standard. Either way, a private event is not the same as a public one- theres no health code that says you can’t let the busboy have some chicken. If these are all employees or whatever, then it’s not bound to the same regulations as, say, giving away food to the homeless. Edit: The real reason a lot of places throw it all away is to food waste it, so they have a log they can use for a tax write off.
