But we didn’t actually see Batman “learn” how to be a better crime-fighter. Godddamn that car was cool! This was a 10/10 for me. Holy shit what an amazing film. I went into it hoping I would like it and by the end I was pissed when it ended because I wanted another hour. God what a breathe of fresh air to watch a superhero film that wasn’t filled with stupid jokes every 5 minutes. I’m now DC > Marvel. I looooooooooooved this movie. I’m sick of needing to care what people who didn’t grow up reading Batman care about. They got there turn, it’s ours now. This was perfect. Utterly fucking adored this, the first Batman I’ve ever seen in a theater. The cast, the action, the score, the production design… hell, even the friggin’ JOKES were outstanding in this.

Just… hold off on the Snoopy Hiking Team We Will Get There When We Get There Shirt Besides,I will do this Joker, Reeves. Please. HE’S BEEN IN ENOUGH. I’m going to try to be as delicate as possible because clearly a lot of people enjoy these types of movies, but I just thought to myself: how cool would superhero movies be (especially ones that continually talk up how “dark” they are) if there was ever a semblance of real danger to its main characters and any other innocent people on-screen? These days, villains are supposed to be good because they’re so “deep and layered” and full of personality, but to me, good villains are absolutely about how threatening they actually are. Like, are they just loud personalities that pop in here and there throughout the superhero’s story to remind us that they’re oh-so-villainous (with “complex” motives) but all of their diabolical plans are (predictably) neutered and the villain itself easily dispatched by the end, or are they actually going to have a real impact on the trajectory of the superhero’s arc and the storyline? If you really think about it, the Riddler killed a mayor we barely got introduced to, another character who had like 10 minutes of screentime max. All of the major characters that were in danger went through the Hollywood-typical death fakeouts, and voila, they’re still alive. I definitely think it’s silly and predictable, but it’s fine if some people enjoy that kind of formula for lighthearted romps. It’s another thing when it contrasts with the utterly grim aesthetic and tone of the film like it was here. “Hey, look how sad and dark everything is. Well, don’t worry, all the villains are punished, and all the main characters survive by the end. Also, all of the evil plots don’t end up mattering or doing much damage.”
