Sure, reasonable accommodation, but that’s not unpaid time off. Unpaid has nothing to do with pto/ppto coverage. Unless you have an overstaffed store, which I highly doubt unless you are at home office or an academy store, I can say without a doubt your unpaid can and will always be denied due to coverage and there is no policy to back you for this. Our whole life is supposed to revolve around Walmart remember? Right. My daughter is graduating in June. I requested the day off 5 1/2 months in advance and it was denied. When I talked to a manager about it, he said “oh yeah. I denied that because of no coverage” Really? You can’t find coverage in 5 months? Thankfully, the graduation date was moved, that manager went to a different store, I requested the new grad date off and it was approved Right, because why wouldn’t I want to go to Walmart instead of my aunt’s 60th birthday party or my family memorial day cookout or my family CHRISTMAS don’t give them a choice. state that you are going on vacation and if they fire you over it you get unemployment. if they truly need you they will keep you on the team. better to not have someone for a couple weeks than not having them indefinitely

Be off and keep your PTO. Our People Lead has caught on to that trick. They inform the coaches and create disciplinary actions based on it. Our market did this a little over a year ago. It has made it very hard to balance school and work since they will not approve unpaid requests but I also accrue very little PTO because of me being part time. My points are riding the line because of it, which I’ve of course been bitched at for. We submitted multiple ethics tickets at my store for it and nothing has changed. They told me the same thing so I resubmitted it with pto but I’m part time so I don’t even earn pto and they approved it. Apparently my store manager was giving coaches shit for approving unpaid time off
