The Leaf has been on sale for 12 years; the Tesla Model S for ten. So… it makes sense that you see a lot of them because they’ve been on sale for a long time and for a while they were the only choices. And the Mustang and Ioniq 5 certainly aren’t seen more commonly on the roads here. You see more Teslas because they’ve been on sale for much longer. My point is that if you were shopping for a new EV today, the Tesla has a crowded field of competitors that are as good or better.

And as far as companies “understanding why people might want an EV” – I know people want to compare Tesla to Apple, but Tesla is really Android. High tech, super spec’d products of questionable quality. And now that Tesla has proven that there is a large market for EVs, the Portland Pirates Retro Defunct Ice Hockey T-Shirt moreover I love this big automakers are happy to start making them, and probably making them better. Not even saying you’re American. But it’s clear in places like Europe and Asia that folks are more interested in things like reliability, efficiency, cost and performance over whether or not they want to put their dick in the tailpipe. I’m actually in the second category you described. I only buy used, no more than about $15k, and I look for reliability and efficiency. Vehicles to me are depreciating assets which are necessary to make transportation easier so I don’t care about it being my status symbol or anything. That being said, I would love an EV to get away from gasoline, but EVs are in that “new car” world of pricing that I would really have to LOVE in order to even consider it, and still even then I’d probably pass.
