Wow, seeing this car for the Old School D&D grognard ad uitam T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this first time. Looks like it’s straight out of Wall-E. Definitely not my style, thanks for sharing though amazing car, priced similarly to cars with 400km range but the Honda does LESS than half. Massive failure ( but beautiful) From what I can remember, Tesla did A LOT of aerodynamic work to maximise how efficient the body of the car was. It could be detrimental to just ignore that work – granted the level of battery tech has improved since that initial design work was done. The shape of the Tesla is undenieably a strong brand. Yes coming up with something new is great but is it worth taking a huge risk? I absolutely hate the way every Tesla looks from the back. I don’t need a car that has instant 0-60 acceleration or x-wing doors or hips that don’t lie. Just give me a reasonable size SUV that is able to tow and gets decent distance on a charge. And don’t bury every control in a massive touch screen. Give me analog buttons for volume and the a/c. Crazy acceleration is just a natural aspect of electric motors, thats just not common knowledge so Tesla try to market it as some kind of special feature. I would love it as well. A door with a crank that I can replace for $5 instead of burning out a motor requiring hundreds to repair. I feel like the worm has turned on Tesla. They’ve squandered their lead with poor reliability, poor fit and finish, insanely expensive repairs, and irritating interior controls. As someone who will definitely be in the market for an EV in the next five years, a Tesla has fallen almost entirely off of my radar screen. Every automaker is coming out with their own models and will leverage their existing size, scale, and quality assurance to make vehicles that are simply better than Teslas. It’s basically already happened.

That’s been my hope as the Old School D&D grognard ad uitam T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this giant auto makers catch up in EV production. Tesla is still and has been the premier EV, but really because they’re first to offer a long range, powerful, luxury EV. But once the giants catch up I imagine they will challenge Tesla in their deficient areas you described, especially if or when the tech and materials become more available and cheaper. It’s gonna take a little while to overcome the cultural notion that EV = Tesla, and to my original point, I think another manufacturer could do so quicker with a unique design. Interesting. So they’re challenging in performance/quality, that’s cool. But public sentiment isn’t always in line with consumer reports and performance ratings. IMO the EV space to the general public is still Tesla first and then the others. It hasn’t. They can say they’ve “caught up” when the electric Mustang and the Ioniq 5 are more commonly seen on the roads than the Teslas; not before. My part of the country has a ton of electric vehicles, and like 95% of them are Teslas, and the other 5% are the Nissan Leaf. You could ban Tesla sales in my county today and it would still take the better part of a decade for other EVs to outnumber them on the roads.
