I guess what I’m trying to say is this person was right, just apologize, fix it if you can, and just admit that you were wrong. I work in pharmacy and have flat out told people “I’m not being racist, you’re just upset and can’t handle your emotions like an adult” death stare “If I was a racist I would have watched you struggle and laughed. The fact that I offered to help is pretty much proof I’m not a racist.” Ya some people just dislike other people, especially working in retail or being someone interacting with customers. Might stink at the New York Giants This Is My Christmas 2023 shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this time holding your tongue but gives you a lesson in humility and definitely makes you appreciate people in the service/retail industry when your done in it. I usually don’t like being talked to by a worker when I’m shopping but it’s really not hard to say “no thanks I’m all set”. I got called a racist by a white girl while joking about Mexican culture with other Mexicans. I guess I wasn’t what she thought all Mexicans stereotypically look like in her mind. We all proceeded to mock her and go back to our jokes. Honestly, she solved the issue for you with the phonie complaint, but trust yourself and look internally. Might find out you have biases. Might find out you don’t. But look internally regardless.

When I finally stood up for myself and said not to talk to me that way, he started screaming about what a racist bitch I was, and followed me inside and screamed to everyone in the store what a racist bitch I was. I think some people just use it as a deflection so they don’t have to admit that no matter what color a person is, they need to act right. Being professional in customer service requires that you NEVER take anything personally. At some point you’re going to be serving every type of asshole that was ever invented. It’s not easy, of course. It’s a learning curve. Stay strong. Just move on. Don’t respond to her, ignore it, move on, and don’t let it affect you. It’s not worth stressing out about crazy people.
