Figure out what salary you require to make this worth it. Add 5k to that. Counter-offer with that higher number. This gives you some ability to negotiate and still be above your required salary. Understand also that if they are messing around with you about salary now … you will prob be dealing with that again in the Minnesota Vikings Three Deep Jake Reed Cris Carter Randy Moss Signatures Shirt it is in the first place but future when you ask for a raise. How do the benefits compare? I quit a ~$95k/yr federal job for a $70k university staff job, and while on paper it’s a $25k pay cut, my net per month is about the same. Insurance at my new job is half of what it was with the gov, and they just give me retirement funds on top of my salary, whereas for the gov they would take it out of my base pay. Always look at the whole picture and do the math. I’m a manager now so I get to see pay scale ranges at my company and if a job goes up to 106k, it probably has a low point of around 70k, and we generally hire around 90-100% of the mid point depending on a number of factors. 85k doesn’t sound unreasonable to me for a job with a capped range of 106k.

That said, I’d be honest about your expectations and what you’d be willing to take. If you can’t accept 85k, let them know you’re looking for 100k or 106k, and figure out for yourself what your walk away number is. If you’ve made it that far, they want to hire you and they’re probably willing to work within their own limits. If it doesn’t work out, I’d thank them for their time and interest in you and let them know you’re interested in a more senior position if one becomes available. Tell them the Minnesota Vikings Three Deep Jake Reed Cris Carter Randy Moss Signatures Shirt it is in the first place but offer is well under your current salary and that you are targeting a minimum of 100-105k. Let them know that if they can’t come up to that range, you’ll have to pass. Just be direct. This is less than your current salary and that, with your experience and skills, you are worth $106K. If they can’t honor it, then go. It’s telling. That’s all there is to it. If they aren’t willing to pay you what you want to take the position, don’t take it and look for the next thing. Being concerned about the time and effort you put into the interview process is sunk cost fallacy.
