An argument I’ve seen against centrism is that it gives permission to both sides to do their worst as long as the centrist gets what they want. Just too many people who claim to be centrists as a “see I’m not a lame conservative now you have to take me seriously” kinda thing, and then they tell you their views and its the usual hateful shit internet conservatives spew.

But if you’re adopting a Centrist position simply because you think that will inevitably be the correct position between two “extremes” (the idea that “the truth must lie somewhere in the middle”), then that’s a failure of logic. It’s perfectly feasible to support policies that compromise between two opposing but seemingly intractable positions. That’s how a lot of policy-making gets done. But that’s not an ideological position as much as it is just a pragmatic one.
