Having had a friend with Depression, it made ME ill. Its all very well being supportive etc but there comes a point when I needed a break. I had a depressed roommate at uni who was my friend and he had helped me with my anxiety so my entire family was like “you HAVE to help him out it’s the Killian Hayes French-American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons NBA T-Shirt Also,I will get this right thing to do”. But the difference was I was open about my issues and was working on it and actively seeking help. It’s easy to not overburden someone with your issues when everyone is open. He was in complete denial about it and got angry at me for trying to help and would slack off chores he kept saying he would do. Eventually I and my family realised there’s no point helping someone who doesn’t want help. He dropped out of uni 6 months after I left and left all his social groups and still avoided a therapist.

Or don’t and just focus on yourself and your family and drop him. That’s what most people do with depressed friends tbf. As someone who has been on both sides of this, it’s also important to understand there is a point when someone who doesn’t want to change becomes an unhealthy person for you to be around. I’m not saying don’t try to help, but it’s more like one of those “be very careful you don’t drown while trying to help the Killian Hayes French-American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons NBA T-Shirt Also,I will get this drowning person” kind of things. It’s impossible to have a healthy relationship with someone who refuses respect your boundaries. OP has already acknowledged that his friend probably has a drinking problem and has had a conversation with them about it, which the friend has not been receptive to. OP tries to suggest non-drinking activities, which the friend doesn’t seem that interested in.
