It’s even part of White American culture to feel as though you have some mystical bond and connection with an ancestors homeland and be influenced by this perceived connection: “I’m Irish, this is my culture” says someone who has one or two Irish ancestors 4 generations removed. They were white, but still had to whitewash themselves because of bigotry. Their names were Americanized when they entered the country. They were told to speak only American english, to dress as Americans, to eat as Americans, to worship at churches that were popular and “acceptable”. To do otherwise was to struggle more than they already were.

For my pre revolutionary war ancestors, well I guess their culture is more subtle. Which is why the KARRION KROSS American professional wrestler T-Shirt and by the same token and newcomers who emulated them may seem cultureless. I think it is understanding there is no “white culture” because most of white culture relates to certain ethnicities. For instance, as a white person I can be proud of my Irish heritage or my Welsh heritage. However, for communities of color particularly African Americans they lost much of their culture due to slavery which is why you have black student unions, black power movements, etc. It’s not white American culture, it’s just American culture. Or your town’s culture. What are these cultural things that other races can’t experience? It’s not easy for us. There are people from all over the world here. Just a real big mixing bowl. Whites in America are mostly muts. My dad was Scottish and my mom was German, English and welsh.
