Denial. Sally told him his dad was a murderer. Sally told him the Just A Girl Who Loves Fall and Atlantic Peanuts Cartoon Halloween shirt and by the same token and movie was bullshit. But I don’t think he trusts her opinion because she’s so closed off and uncaring. He probably remembers much of what happened. He was there for the shootout and he wasn’t THAT young, though it’s possible he could have blocked it out. He only has positive memories of his dad, and even though Sally was seemingly not interested in lying to him, the news and media clearly spun this to be a story about a heroic ex marine. It’s easier to just believe he’s a hero for now because it’s easier to reconcile his memory of his father with the media spin, so I think he’s going to. Sally’s truth falling on deaf ears is also just so in line with her life.

Just A Girl Who Loves Fall and Atlantic Peanuts Cartoon Halloween shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

Sounds like he’s living in denial. There’s no way he doesn’t remember what Sally said to him about him being a murderer. He always wanted to look up to his dad, but found out the Just A Girl Who Loves Fall and Atlantic Peanuts Cartoon Halloween shirt and by the same token and truth. He watched the idealized version of Barry in that movie and went along with it just like everyone else did. Deep down I’m sure he knows it’s wrong, but he chooses not to accept it. It’s so sad. Watching The Mask Collector play out, seeing them put everything Barry did on Gene… God, I wasn’t expecting a happy ending, but I was at least expecting some bittersweet note. See I don’t necessarily agree with this. He went through so much trauma in such a short amount of time, the events of the last three episodes were like two days, that he doesn’t remember a lot of what happened at all. My thoughts are the same on this. He was only a kid when this stuff happened, largely over the course of one night. It’s common to repress that sort of thing. The movie gives him something to project in the absence of those memories, and besides, it seems like Sally didn’t do anything to correct the public perception of Barry. It’s likely she hasn’t revisited the truth with John since then.
