I recommend setting goals and milestones with them and have them confirm it in writing. I would still push for the Iron-Maiden The Future Past Tour 23 Circle Shirt and I will buy this pay raise, with the expectation that if you or they don’t want to keep you in the role, you go back to your old pay, and if you do stay in the role, your permanent pay will be negotiated at that time. No!! Merit raises are provided at end of year as a reward for work you did. You don’t take on new responsibilities and titles without compensation for the increased responsibilities. What if this were a new job and they were like “oh we will start paying you some unknown time after you’ve been working” Ask for a list of milestones and goals that need to be met to get the raise then build them to it. The experience and the title are worth something even if you take your talents somewhere else and you should consider being prepared to do that as well

About five years ago I worked at a company that did this exact same thing. They asked a recent college grad, who did awesome work, to act as the Iron-Maiden The Future Past Tour 23 Circle Shirt and I will buy this marketing director. There are 2 routes to getting rewarded for doing this – you either get your current company to pay market for the new role (not likely) or you take the title and aggressively shop your resume around with that new title such that you can get paid somewhere else.
