Ask for an intermittent position title and pay raise to what you have already shown you can do. Something like a Lead instead of Manager. And get that money. A promotion without a pay raise is not a promotion. If they don’t want to give you more money for doing more work, then give your two weeks notice. The stresses involved with learning the Indiana Jones Temple Of Doom Poster Shirt Furthermore, I will do this new position, especially one which will inherently involve more responsibilities which are heavier in weight, deserves improved compensation. Negotiate for at least an interim increase. But, accept no pay which is less than the previous holder was paid; if they wanted to keep someone at that pay, they would not have released the previous employee. Advice: consider that you might be expected to “fix” a myriad of existing problems that can’t be corrected, and Boss was fired as a scapegoat. Get more info – you need a list of specific duties, metrics – how will you be evaluated? Does team performance affect your standing? Are you expected to do your old tasks on top of managing? Not saying that you wouldn’t be successful, but “let’s see how you do in a few months” is EXTREMELY vague guidance to change roles. Optimist side of me says this could be a good opportunity. If you are interested in that role and don’t think you would be able to make that jump by applying at a different company, then it sounds like a good opportunity. I would definitely ask for a pay increase due to the Indiana Jones Temple Of Doom Poster Shirt Furthermore, I will do this increased responsibilities, but that likely will get denied. Ask if they will be posting the job while you are in the role. If they are then don’t accept. If you do take this opportunity, make sure there is an end date to this trial period and get that in writing. Also get the salary in writing of this new role if you become full time at the end of the trial period. This will prevent them from dragging it on forever and you won’t be “stuck” doing the new work and end up getting a minuscule raise.
