Take the In A World Full Princess Be A Tim Burton Girl T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this work life balance with a grain of salt- it seems that everywhere I have worked starts with a good work life balance, then a year or so in, consultants start coming in, new execs, etc… and you start to see that balance evaporate I do not think it is worth the stress and loss of personal time. Furthermore I am strongly of the belief that we sit, societally, upon a precipice where the financial and economic world we’re accustomed to today (and for the next handful of years) is going to rapidly change in ways that literally nobody can meaningfully predict. I don’t have much interest in selling a huge amount of my time now if AI makes the rewards next to meaningless within 20 years. YMMV of course, depending on your outlook. I live in a low-mid col area, and make 110,000 with good work life balance, and I wouldn’t trade that for more money, even if it was double.

I wanna spend time raising my babies, I want to be in control of my time. How can you expect to do that working 60 hour weeks? I have a small business and had been making around 90k with a great work/life balance but was always worried I was 1 contract away from losing the In A World Full Princess Be A Tim Burton Girl T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this business so 2 years ago I made a decision to go in another direction with the business that has really taken off but now requires me to work 60-70 hours a week 8 months of the year. Last year I came close to 200k and this year should do around the same and I really regret the decision. I have 2-3 more years until I’ve paid off the high six figure debt that I took on to fund the change then I plan on either hiring people to replace me or sell the business. I know there’s no way I can maintain my family life for much longer than that. I notice on weeks where I don’t come home until just about bedtime for the kids they can be upset with me for no longer picking them up from school like I used to. My wife hates when I work Sundays but if I don’t do the prep work then I’m stressed out all day when I am home on Sunday and then the entire week I feel behind and invariably end up with 2-3 days where I work 16-18 hours and then have upset kids. The real kicker is my wife makes good money and I didn’t really need to do this but I didn’t think I’d be so busy and now I’m stuck until I pay off my loans.
