In small towns you can find a 1 bedroom for $400. This is also I feel like severely skewed by places were it cost more to rent a 1bd/bt than it does to rent a house. I have kived in four major cities and my rent was always under 800 a month for a 1 bedroom. You don’t HAVE to live in NYC or San Francisco. Move to one of the other 1000s of affordable cities people. Gtfo out of those overpriced hell holes. AZ, TN, FL, and IN. I really am baffled. Only really nice apartments were that much. The bad parts of town were way cheaper. Even somewhat undesirable cities like Salt Lake City are getting to an average of ~$1300/month for a 1 bedroom. So yeah, things are getting high in the last few years even outside of those bigger cities. The minimum wage is the lowest you can be paid. Why are you comparing the lowest wages to the averages cost of rent? The average person makes more than minimum wage. I was always taught and told a third, so it would bright an expected hourly wage down to like 32 dollars. But point still stands. I own a half million dollar house in a major metro area and my mortgage, taxes and insurance are less than $1,700/mo. If you’re paying more than that for a 1 bedroom apartment I’d suggest you move to a more affordable area.
