There’s no way that rent stat is accurate. Statista is frequently inaccurate, and even many of the rental sites that release these kinds of reports are inaccurate. I used to run one, all they do is look at their current inventory, which is skewed toward large expensive property management buildings that pay them for leads. They release these stats as a source of PR, they’re not trying for accuracy when large outrageous numbers get people more worked up and clicking. If they give any shit at all about accuracy, they’d include eg Craigslist, and other sources that had more mom-and-pop landlords. If they REALLY wanted to be accurate, they’d do a broad survey of renters, because then they’d get the people who hadn’t moved in a while because their rent was too good, which is especially the case for those in rent controlled buildings and the like.
