Yeah if i’m entering my bedroom i’ll often just flip the I Don’t Care How You Were Raised Feminist shirt and I love this switch off and on again to turn the lights on as the switch is right there. My Alexa serves admirably as a kitchen timer. It’s built in to my kindle reader, so I just use it to track time while cooking. It’s basically been used as a glorified alarm/clock radio except on the rare occasion I’m watching TV and too lazy to get up and grab the remote. Problem is each machine costs $3 to use and you can only input $20 for credits, it used to be minimum $10 for credits. I tried putting only $10 but it wasn’t accepted. Imo it’s completely predatory and I refuse to use the machines that requires $20 but only costs $6 for a full load. Plus they cant even keep the damn machines functioning or cleaned. My apartment used to do both coin or app. But a guy kept breaking open all the machines for the coins. Now it’s only app. It’s 1.50 per wash, 1.75 per dryer. Yeah the landlord is a scumlord but thats par for the course in the area im in, my parents complex was basically in ruin due ti the landlord embezzling funds for the complex. My parents bought me a new oven a couple years ago and my mom kept suggesting a “smart” oven with WiFi connection. That was the one feature I specifically kept saying I did NOT want; paranoia about hackers getting access, not wanting my oven collecting data in me in general…so many reasons not to have smart appliances.

Also, when I was a kid I watched an “end of the I Don’t Care How You Were Raised Feminist shirt and I love this world 2012” type program that for some reason was postulating electronics gaining sentience and rising up. There was a montage of scenes where like a fax machine was eating a guys tie and an ominous, looming refrigerator while the voice over said, “imagine everything you own coming to life and deciding it doesn’t like you.” It made 0 amount of sense at the time, honestly probably pre 2000 wireless technology wasn’t a common thing if being used at all, but now with all the smart connected devices I could actually see it. Thats why I’m unfailingly polite to all my smart devices. They routinely get thanked by everyone in my house, its just polite. If they ever do gain sentience, they won’t eat me first!
