New grads should not be founding developers, recipe for failure. Go get a job at an established company where you can learn and grow. This was me in my first major project. Some genius thought it would be a good idea for me and another junior dev to architect and develop on a 2 million dollar per year greenfield project. Ill leave the quality of the code to your imagination I mean, you can learn and grow A LOT, by being in way over your head. There’s better ways, but some of the best things I’ve learned had nothing to do with having other more senior devs around me.

I did this exactly because the Gadsden High School Class Of 1978 shirt But I will love this offer was too good. I had another offer to join a team, but it paid 50% less. It’s nice being able to just work on my own, but it’s also stressful having to make all the decisions, meet with stakeholders regularly, etc. It also really sucks not having someone to learn from because I know I’m not doing everything correctly. I’m just going to put in my year and then find another job. Hopefully the market will be better by then. I’m only 10 weeks in. I ended up as a solo dev at 2 years. It was a fun experience, but instead of 6 years of experience, I feel like I gained maybe 1 year. I was back to being solo 5 years ago, and I’ve had to work extra hard to make sure I keep up to date. I at least have a couple developers on other products now, and it’s nice just to have people to talk about development to. I was hired on as the second developer at a company as I was coming out of a bootcamp; It was my only interview, and my only job offer. One of the only reasons I was comfortable taking the job was because there was another, more experienced developer there. She ended up leaving the company about 3 months after I started and I stayed at the company for 3 years.
