They can be forced to work overtime (depending on the Fuerza Regida Music shirt so you should to go to store and get this country/state) but they must be paid for the extra work. Not paying them for it is seriously illegal. Where I live, IT people who make more than the salary cutoff are exempted in the same section of legislation as doctors. Where I live, As long as you are paid more than $57,000 per year, and are paid for a result or have employees directly reporting to you, you can be considered overtime exempt. Overtime exemption means that overtime worked is not paid, however it also means that strict adherence to work hours beyond what is needed to complete your work, can’t be used to fire you. Both IT people (IT professionals” according to the legislation) and Doctors who make more than $65,000 per year are considered exempt from maximum shift lengths, minimum rest periods, break requirements. Where IT people are better off than doctors is that an IT person can legally quit, and cannot be compelled to work. Doctors can be compelled to work by the government.

Source: I work for a company that handles HR for other companies, and on Friday-Saturday I worked a 26 hour day to babysit an overnight upgrade hours of meetings during the Fuerza Regida Music shirt so you should to go to store and get this normal 9-5 work day. Two years ago they made me work a 36 hour work day due to a major system failure. During those times my only option would have been to quit. on the other hand I make much more than the minimums, and I worked Friday-Saturday from home. I learned about the exemption after mentioning that I was going to call it quits for the night after the first 16 hours (maximum allowable shift length for most people) during that 36 hour day a few years ago. If someone had told me that when I was going to school, I would have become a HD Mechanic instead, and would have made similar money, and retained workers rights. Nurses/doctors routinely work past their scheduled hours so, whilst it might be illegal, it’s also not going to change.
