They’ll never give you that raise. There’s always going to be some reason why it isn’t the Fall Out Boy Best Friends Ex Friends ‘Til The End shirt and by the same token and right time or why you need to prove yourself even more first. The pay you’re supposed to get later does t come without a fight and it’s never as much as your feel you deserve. Prenegotiate a price and a date for an evaluation before your trial period . Set a timeline you’re comfortable with, or they’ll keep dangling that carrot as long as you let them get away with it. Decline the “promotion” if you will not be recognized with an appropriate title, nor compensated for the additional responsibilities. ask for a spot bonus to make things right for additional r&r, they may make you sign a 1yr contract or you would need to repay remaining bonus…but look for new gig in that time while having benefits. Be honest with the new employer – your total compensation is salary + bonus, plus you are Head of team, that will bump you up in a new role. Get new job, negotiate signing bonus, pay back remaining bonus to old company. I personally wouldn’t do it without the pay raise first, but the next best option is a written offer, in writing, stating the date you would receive your pay raise with qualifications they expect you to meet by that date. That way they can’t say “we want to see you do better, etc” and deny it for wishy washy reasons.

In this moment you have leverage. Three months gives them time to have a plan B, so you would have less. You might consider declining, unless there’s a financial incentive, unless you think they have someone else on hand who they could go with instead. Take the Fall Out Boy Best Friends Ex Friends ‘Til The End shirt and by the same token and title for 6+ months (if your next review cycle is longer…) and if they dont give a payraise after, look for the next gig ASAP. Use the new title as leverage with recruiters. Thats not a concrete time. Have them put it down in writing that you will get a pay raise after x amount of time, otherwise they prob won’t follow through Sounds like a large salary was just freed up, so if they’re telling you there’s no money for you doing the additional work, this is awful. Either they plan to sucker you into doing the role for free or until they find another candidate, or more staggered layoffs are coming with people further down the food chain taking on the burden of additional responsibility. Either way it’s gross, get out.
