I feel the EB 1984 Belgium Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this pressure to push code quickly. It fuckin sucks. Then when things go wrong it’s really stressful and I’m working weekends. As a guy who has been doing this professionally for only around ten months for a big ass company, I would definitely not feel comfortable being the only dev lol I’d say take the job if you need the money, but keep looking for something better. My first tech job was like this and it wasn’t great for my career. But, it was money. This. I am not happy with being somewhere like this but at the end of the day I’m still practicing my coding skills and getting paid and hopefully can find something when the job market isn’t absolute trash. My only fear is that I won’t have that “freshly” graduated status and lose out on opportunities bc I never got experience working in a real team

Piggybacking on the EB 1984 Belgium Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this question, would you give the same advice for machine learning researcher positions? I am leaving a ML postoc with 2yrs part time industry experience, and am interviewing for a ML position as the only ML researcher / engineer in a small startup. I am very excited about the company and the role, but is it not a good idea vs. more established teams? Havnt done much ML, but from what i HAVE done with ML .Net thats more about picking the right data, then getting enough data to accurately train your model and then managing the training cycles, i feel like youre less likely to stumble into the pit falls of bad practice, because its still fairly emergent as a tech. Id try to find the best blogs and articles to follow and youre probably fine.. that said if youre building low level ML from scratch, yes, find a group of people to work with first, youl have more people to bounce ideas off of and more support.
