But this tracks. I drop my daughter off at school in the mornings so my husband doesn’t need to get up and go to work an hour early. But when he does occasionally need to take her, he just goes to work right after. It’s not really worth driving back home just to leave again 15 minutes later. Power went out for 2 hours at the office. Was told to “look busy”. I work with CAD Software drawing plans, so a computer is mandatory for my job. Ended up pretending to draw on plans for 2 hours just to keep up appearances. What a crock of shit. Some directors are absolutelely unreasonable. Balance your outside work responsibilities against your level of interest in the role/company (is this a good job currently? Is it somewhere that you want to be in 5 years– possibly with some growth potential?).

A) Showing up “only” 15 minutes early & leaving 15 minutes late adds up to 2.5 hrs/wk, or more than 5 full days if you do it for a year… that said, even that “lower” level (you probably won’t be first there or last to leave) of going above and beyond usually puts you above reproach for “buy in” / “team mentality” concerns.
