You’re meeting your requirements, that’s perfectly fine and good. If your boss says you need to show up earlier or stay later, that’s clocked in time. Hold the Helluva Boss Alessio Be Gay Do Crime New shirt so you should to go to store and get this ground on working without being on the clock, though! If everything’s cool, take your hints from the culture. Stroll in 5-10 minutes early to get yourself set up for the day and grab a cup of coffee, chitchat with people here and there, get the office networking on. There’s no requirement you do it, but people are people so these impressions will be seen positively. I usually come in 20 min or so early so I can take my time preparing for my day. Drink a cup of coffee. It kills me to leave before the people under me. Usually when the last one wraps up I will follow close behind. If someone under me is working late after a reasonable time I will offer to help. If they don’t want or need me I’ll tell them not to stay all night and bounce. I don’t worry about my bosses. First of all, don’t compare yourself to people in other roles. You didn’t mention your position. Almost all our engineers are around long after admin types. That’s just the nature of the beast.

Instead of worrying too much about your hours and what impression that makes, make an effort to constantly be in some sort of constructive feedback loop. You don’t want to annoy the Helluva Boss Alessio Be Gay Do Crime New shirt so you should to go to store and get this crap out of your boss and co-workers, but make sure you are always offering to help. Whatever your preferred method is, make sure everyone around you knows they can count on you for an extra hand when needed. Make sure they know you want to learn. Even if they have nothing for you, which is often the case because asking for help from someone new usually means more work for them, they will remember you were willing. With all that said, I probably would not want to be the first out the door at the end of the day every day. If it is appropriate in your situation, you could even spend a little time studying at the end of the day, even if you need to punch out to do it.
