I’m not saying that you should do this, but there is always the Die For This Hellca V1 Shirt moreover I love this tried and true Starbucks method of giving an alternate name that is easier for the person to spell / understand (if your name feels uncomfortable to say with a koreanized pronunciation or hard to understand in its original way). For everything else, first in English then I clarify with the Korean pronounciation if needed (but it’s usually not, I have an extremely common name that most Koreans are familiar with). I say it the original way. My name is simple enough, but if they couldn’t get it I’d rather give them the Hangeul spelling than say my name any other way. I let thé language we’re speaking dictate it. Speaking in English? I pronounce it as usual. Speaking in Korean? Koreanized.

If they can speak English well enough that you’re speaking to them in English, then why would you need to pronounce your name the Die For This Hellca V1 Shirt moreover I love this Korean way? Likewise, if they can’t speak English and your name is difficult to pronounce, then it’s helpful to Koreanize it. I have never been in this situation, but I would pronounce it the western way. I feel you should pronounce names the way they are pronounced in the culture from where they come from. But I wouldn’t mind it if people pronounced it the Korean way. If I’m speaking Korean then I say my name as it’s pronounced in Korean. If I’m speaking English, I say it in English. If I’m speaking my native language, I say it in my native language. I’m not Korean, but my husband is and our son’s name (his only name) is Korean. I don’t want to write the name just for privacy reasons but I will say it’s spelled in English exactly how it’s pronounced in both English and Korean, except for the “ahh” sound sometimes put at the end of it in Korean. So we haven’t had any issues. People seem to like his name but I have been asked things like awe that’s cute do you call him -insert first part of his name here- lol. And that really bothers me because if we wanted to call him blank we would’ve named him blank?? I feel strongly about people with names from other cultures or languages not altering their name in English just so it fits better in our mouths. You can certainly anglicize it in the USA because people will naturally talk with an American dialect here but to go from like Jung-Yun for example, to JOHN, is just unnecessary
