We had lamb shanks for dinner once and nothing was left apart from the David Pegg English footballer who played as an outside-left T-Shirt in contrast I will get this bone but I really wanted to take the bones for my dog. My very British partner was shocked I’d even muster up the courage to ask but I saw no issues with it. I did tell the waiter it was for a dog and he took our plates away and packed up the bones + added a third one!! I remember as a kid it being called a doggy bag some times if was ti take left over hone for dog or depending what we had and what was left it was for us, still think places do it but just isn’t as popular. During COVID nearly every restaurant became a takeaway to stay in business. They still do takeaway, have all the containers and will pack your leftovers just as if it were another takeaway (which it is!) A nice looking restaurant which has spent a lot of time and money on a good ambience and decor would not want other tables to see patrons scraping their plate into a cardboard box. They will take it away and pack it.

Depends what you’re taking home. I’m always just given a box to take pizza home, but if it’s say curry, they’ll usually package it for you. I was dining in a Japanese Sushi restaurant in Liverpool few months ago and there was a huge commotion at a table. The dad of the David Pegg English footballer who played as an outside-left T-Shirt in contrast I will get this family looks like he has roid/alcohol rage and speaking a bunch of fighting words towards the waiter. His daughter and his wife escorted him out and one of them calmly talked to the waiter about the incident. Turns out the dude got very very offended that they have to pack the leftovers themselves. In my experience, in most countries you have to specifically ask but 99.9% of places will bring you a box to pack it yourself. In the USA (where portion sizes are fucking huge!!), it’s pretty common that if you’ve left a significant amount of food on your plate, the server will ask you if you’d like a box before you need to ask them for one.
