Is your partner SAH? If not, consider the Crispy Bacon, Pursuit of Bliss or Delicious Demise! Skull T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this cost of being away from home longer in your situation – I know if I were to work 60 hour weeks, I’d be hiring a cleaner and dog walker and paying more for food. That extra 30k would easily get eaten up by convenience purchases and in the long run, cost of healthcare when the stress gets to my body. I want to give a different perspective because a lot of the comments are operating from the perspective that you’re employed by someone who is forcing these terms upon you. My genuine answer to you would be that it depends. The 200k working 60 hrs is the name of the game in entrepreneurship; whether you want to take that or not depends on your goals, what type of person you are, and what level of risk you’re comfortable with. This is a different question from having a shitty job where you slave away under a greedy boss. If your level of risk with entrepreneurship pays off, then your effective hours will most certainly be reduced to likely less than the ones you currently work, at your 130k job. But again, that’s an if. You have to be comfortable shouldering the incredible amount of work ahead of you, and the risk has to pay off. It was absolutely awesome when I was making 255k, but it was stressful. I wasn’t even working 60 hours. Probably more like a solid no-breaks-during-the-day 45 hrs with hard deadlines and no work life balance.

I would do it again as a short stint. I worked that job for 8 months, and while I think it was worth it financially it definitely took a mental toll. I’d think 60 hr weeks allow for work life balance. Especially if your commute is short, and you like what you’re doing. If you have kids now keep your current job. You will never get that time back, and the Crispy Bacon, Pursuit of Bliss or Delicious Demise! Skull T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this extra income isn’t worth it. Especially if it’s just theoretical income. Any way to use your current 100k+ yearly earnings to invest it into subcontracting jobs and slowly build the company as you still work? Remember, time is your most precious resource. You can’t save it, you can only spend it. Is spending years of your life possibly being miserable worth it? Just look at it from the perspective of, “would I regret spending my time on earth this way”? If the answer is “no” then it might be worth it for you. But only you can answer that for yourself. Make as much money while you can. Dave as much as you can do you can rest earlier and much more comfortably. Suck for now but the payoff will be worth it. Take it from someone who makes more than $200k a year now, I am no more content with my life than when I was making $100K a year. Invest in quality friends, that’s what will make you happy in the end. Are you more concerned about the future or present. If you are making ok money but have the 401k or pension I would use that to build a retirement quicker. If you want to enjoy the now more, I would try to get the higher salary to have cash available for enjoyment. Not to say you could not make enough with the job with out the retirement benefits to retire, but it is not as sure as the 401k or pension position. Don’t forget benefits can be considered earnings, just going to your retirement or insurance before you see it in your bank .
