That seems like the Captain Ray Holt Vintage shirt it is in the first place but first level of reflection and introspection, you’re just being aware of your own feelings and trying to find possible causes, then rationalizing which, if any, actions are justified. Maybe you’re capable of that but if someone wants to do those steps verbally with an intimate partner that shouldn’t be the hardest concept to grasp. Sure, people can talk to each other about their emotions, that’s great, but this has now strayed away from the specific into the general. I was feeling frustrated about the lack of clean laundry (we both had ADHD and laundry is our enemy). I said to her “I am feeling frustrated and just want to vent, but I don’t want any solutions” she agreed, I told her how I felt about the laundry.

She responds with something along the Captain Ray Holt Vintage shirt it is in the first place but lines of “but it’s been getting better, we’ve been working on it!” And then she immediately gets up and begins a load of laundry. The problem isn’t the laundry. The problem is how the person is feeling … So, if you do see yourself as a “fixer” maybe think of yourself as an “assumer” and go a week where you try your best to be curious and an “addresser”. A response which seems to say that you reduce attempts to fix emotional problems as themselves emotionally insensitive or misguided. A feeling is just a mental experience, it’s a thing that happens to us. When we stub our toe, it’s cathartic to wince and moan, and that catharsis is fine. When we get a splinter, we not only wince and moan, we remove the splinter and maybe put on some disinfectant. It would be unusual to leave the splinter in place and ask other people to validate the existence of the splinter, as if we should all gather and stare but not touch. I don’t think this is a dismissive attitude. If you look at my other responses to OP, you’ll see that I talked about communication issues between fixers and venters, how we tend to look for different things in emotional crises, and how we have different priorities and triggers that often cause us to dismiss or misinterpret one another.
