I make over 200k and I can tell you I wouldn’t do it for 60 hours a week, fuck that. The govvy and state (if applicable) takes a lot more at that point…. I never achieved much of anything and I regret every one of those 6 years there. I was so bored at that job, i had a side-hustle where I made another 120k a year on top of that. It was a full blown business with 12 employees. Between the two jobs I worked on average 60-80 hours per week. I loved every minute working on my own business.

Today I have a fairly high stress job that pays OK for being in sr leadership. I don’t hate it. But, it is pretty high stress and while I don’t think i’ll regret 50-60hrs a week at it, I do want to be paid better. I will probably leave in a year if it’s not significantly better money and i’ll take a job at the 200k+ mark. Absolutely yes… especially so if that is not in a high cost of living area and it allows you to save a large portion of that income. OP, you are getting advice from many people who do not know what a 60h workweek is like, nor what a $200K lifestyle is like either. Also many people here don’t state what kind of family situation they are in, so there’s that. Also many people (checks subreddit) skew young – it’s the nature of the beast. Old guy here. Makes over $200K/year. Works full-time remote and at least 50 – 55h/week, and enjoys the work/life balance. Yes kids and yes already financially independent.
