I’ve been in HCOL all my working life, so that bump from where you are is huge in a MCOL area. Also as you are (from all that it sounds) a trades business owner, you can sock away a huge amount tax-free (aka a SEP-IRA, limited to 25% of compensation or $61K, which in your case would be capped at $50K on a $200K income). Most of us ‘regular W-2 people’ (like you are now) is limited to less than half that, 2022 it was $20.5K. An extra $30K/year to sock away pre-tax is another huge benefit IMHO. I 100% could make more money moving somewhere else but my work/life benefit is close to absolutely perfect right now, so that wins. If I could do the Charles Barkley The Chuck Basketball Legend Signature American Player T-Shirt Also,I will get this 200k job for 1-3 years and save most of it, I probably would. I already work between 50-70 hrs a week and make nothing near that, so take what I say with a grain of salt. However, if this takes a large amount or risk and capital on your part, and you are already unsure about the hours but want a successful business, you may want to look at something else a bit less demanding or more flexible and stay with a 90-130k job in the meantime. I’ve been putting in 60 hour weeks for about 5 years now. My house will be paid off in a little under 10 years if I keep this pace. I’d rather work more and make more. Otherwise I’d be sitting there bored wasting the time I could be spending making nearly 2x the money.
