Or we just say no every time at the checkout and give the money ourselves later. Because I can tell you in a lot of cases these corporations are just doing it to dodge taxes. Scenario 1: you pay full price for your purchase and then add a dollar, round up, etc. That additional donation is yours to claim as a deduction, and is listed as such on your receipt. You can bring that to your accountant at tax time and claim it for a tax deduction. The store cannot also claim that donation. Most people don’t claim it, because a few dollars here and there rarely ends up being more than the standard deduction, so it’s not worth it. Even if you don’t claim it yourself, the store still can’t claim it for themselves. Scenario 2: You pay full price for your purchase and nothing else. The store donates a percentage of the proceeds for the night/week/whatever time period out of that purchase. That’s their donation and thus they can claim it at tax time and you can’t, because you only paid the price of the good/service.

Do some companies try to do shady shit to get around this? I’m sure there are some. But people acting like you’re getting scammed by donating at the register only serve to reduce donations to charities for these campaigns. I think the same thing whenever I see animal rescue commercials.. like they ask for money but producing that commercial and buying ad time.. 1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
