Lots of people think racism is like a sinful brand that is put on you. And it’s more of a spectrum. If I was ever called a racist I would personally want to understand why I was called that and take it as a lesson on how to improve myself. Could just say, ” I’m sorry you feel that way.” OR “Pretty sure you’re the Arkansas SEC Holidays Southeastern Conference Home For The Holidays Shirt What’s more,I will buy this only racist one here.” Second one is a bit more incendiary, but no less true. I don’t get defensive. If someone calls me racist, I attempt to have a discussion with them to find out why they took my behaviour as racist. I’ve never had any result from that besides either me realizing that maybe I did act with a bit of subconscious racism (and apologizing), or them realizing they mistook my actions (and apologizing). If your reaction is instantly to try to prove you’re not racist, there’s a decent chance that you did actually act out of subconscious racism.

Not having to notice these things. are you seriously asking about how to deal with assholes of a specific type? you said you’ve been doing the job for years but it doesn’t sound like it based on this post. move on dude jesus You don’t know what this woman has been through and how she’s been treated before. Just grit your teeth smile and move on! I’d just say “okay” and move on. I worked in a restaurant that was 95% Hispanic, of that 95% I’d say 95% were fairly recent immigrants from Mexico. I got called racist so often despite the fact I was one of very very few white people that I got used to it.
