Obviously, Ishi was a man just like you and I, a H.sapiens, a fully modern human, different only culturally and immunologically. But I think it was kind of like that. Just less and less of you, and people like you. More and more isolated. The others may be friendly or not. There may have been violence and disease, or there may have just been more and more of them and fewer of your family. Until eventually, you wander all over and don’t find any more like you, and you get old or get sick and die alone, wondering if you are the Aaron Jones 33 running back football player shirt and by the same token and last. Anyhow, Kroeber, along with Hurtado and Heizer, is to this day one of the best early acdemic sources we have for Native California. He was a prolific writer and collector who was genuinely and deeply fascinated with the incredibly complex cultural mosaic that was pre-Columbian California. No other part of what’s now the US was as densely populated and culturally diverse as was Native California.

Probably just chilling with our ancestors if they were Neanderthals or maybe Denisovans. They had it lucky. Some of the Aaron Jones 33 running back football player shirt and by the same token and others I feel terrible for. The ones who probably didn’t even meet any other Homo’s since Theresa’s probably a last few that died completely alone. Think of animals that have gone extinct that we know of where there was literally just one of them left. That seems like such a lonely existence. It was probably the same for some of them. I have read that there was mingling and interbreeding between different groups throughout Africa, from Neanderthals, early Homo sapiens, Denisovans, Homo heidelbergensis, maybe more. So, no last of the “pure” Neanderthals seeing their own demise. The earliest fossils show a mixture of primitive and modern features. An excellent article from the Smithsonian on this subject is:

1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
