And they’re sure as hell not going to even begin to think that a house being by a lake or in a certain state would have any affect on how much it costs! It’s absolutely right for OP to be frustrated and angry at how unfair the system is. But they don’t need to create a patronising story to appeal to people who already know. If anything it undermines the very real, very valid point to the wider population, as it makes people who do take issue with the system look like fantasists. I remember being 13 and thinking $20 was a ton of money because of all the shit i could buy for myself and not even understanding the cost of actual things..like cars, houses etc. To me it was just homes people lived in I think this sub might well do more harm than good. It’s preaching to the converted, and the people outside who it needs to get onboard as allies can point to the many, many fantasy stories and fake text conversations as examples of why it’s not a real problem that should be taken seriously. I once knew an older boomer (probably born ’43-48) who volunteered for the same non-profit as I did. This was in an expensive, major East Coast city. Super nice, friendly guy but he struck me as the ultimate boomer. Let me tell you what he told me when he invited me over for a beer at his place in the city where we both lived: * Said that after he graduated from college (presumably without debt) he didn’t know what he wanted to do, so he went to a top (Ivy league) law school (also presumably with little to no debt)
