15 years ago my old man charged me £200 p/m and nothing extra for food orwhatever. Though this was fair at the You Never Know What You Have Until Clean Your Room shirt Apart from…,I will love this time all things considered. Maybe 250 – 300 nowadays?? Gap year pre uni I lived at home and paid £200 + bought most of my own food and thought that was fair. That was 14 years ago though! If they’re using regular amounts of electricity and eating your food then £1000 per month would be a good range. You can use £500 to pay for the utilities and food and save the other £500 for them. I know I’ll be downvoted for this, but you’re saving for their future (while they also pay their way now). I currently live with my mum and get a very good deal. Me and my partner buy all of the food, that’s our “rent” effectively. And because food shops are food shops, that obviously also includes the usual cleaning and washing supplies. We were originally also going to pay for half of the utilities, but it worked out simpler for the dog to have one less day a week at day care and us to look after her that day, which saves my mum about £100 a month

My mum does own the You Never Know What You Have Until Clean Your Room shirt Apart from…,I will love this house outright though, and had no plans for downsizing or anything like that before we moved in. So it’s not like she’s paying more rent than she needs to or something like that. I think it’s also slightly different for us, because I moved out then moved back in, so I don’t need the learning to budget or learning the costs of life bit. We rented and managed our own lives for 5ish years before moving back with my mum. It’s a good deal, and because of that me and my partner manage to save about 60% of our income. We moved back because we were borderline homeless, and my mum was incredible and supported us 100% while the job search was on, asking only for the chores to be done (which obviously would have been done anyway!).
