£150 a month put £100 in an account to help them when they move out and £50 a month is to help with your own basic needs 200 roughly, and if they bring it up, tell them food and bills are all in… I think this is a great thing you’re doing. There’s budgeting in there and it’s not going to sting them. When they finally move out and discover that you haven’t been spending it, it will be the WTF Where’s the Fish Fishing shirt it is in the first place but best thing ever. Maybe 150, so as not to cause any friction. It’s way less than a real house, room or share. After i finished a levels I was paying 600pm + getting a text with a list of ‘bits’ to pick up from my work (supermarket) most days. Was earning £1200. Id moved in with some friends 1 month later. If you want them to move out now this is the best way I don’t charge my son board, he does have to save a weeks wages per month, also pay for all his usual stuff like car and phone etc. He’s just 20, the way things are I can’t imagine him moving out anytime soon, hopefully he’ll have enough saved to help towards a house. Edit : that’s roughly £400/£500 per month

God damn, seeing all these £150-£300s makes me jealous AF. My mum made me pay £500 rent, got own food and utilities ontop, was earning 1.3k per month in 2018. Me and my brother were charged £250 per month which included food and laundry. At the WTF Where’s the Fish Fishing shirt it is in the first place but time me and my dad were the only drivers in the house so I would also do the food shopping or give mum lifts to work. I would also help with laundry and housework. We had 3 cats in the house- one being mine. My brother had a problem with this and said I should be charged more because I had a cat… his gf lived with us too yet I should pay more My parents charged me £250 which seemed a lot but this was about 7 years ago. Realistically it did help me understand about bills and gave me a good set up for when i moved out Maybe break down the cost of them living with you and share it with them so that they get a sense of what they’re actually paying for. Include everything though, a portion of every bill, etc.
