I don’t know why that comment was getting downvoted. A lot of people’s descriptions of what Birmingham looks like seem to be based on driving on the With The Strength Of Shield Maiden The Storms Of Life T-Shirt and I love this motorways that go past it. “It’s all industrial warehouses”. No shit, if you drive on the motorway that goes through the industrial warehouse area that’s what you’re going to see. Funny because the M5, M6 and M42 come right up to and into Birmingham, yet the major motorways completely avoid most of the other major cities. Live in Birmingham for a couple of years. Don’t think it’s that “bad” or “wrong” compared to other major UK cities, as some people make it sound. I’d say that my main thing is that after 7pm there is nothing to do if you don’t like drinking alcohol and can’t afford expensive places. Lots of yobs and problematic teenagers. Lots of franchises and high street brands with decreasing indie places (high rents, for example, I found Coventry much better on this).

The city is also too broad and wide for its own good, transportation is relatively good, but if you need to be two postcodes away, that can be a good hour travel.
