p.s. That “attempt with HR to increase the Wisconsin Badgers Football 2023 It’s In My DNA shirt moreover I love this salary offer”? That’s a used-car dealership tactic. Don’t fall for it. The manager knows what the budget is for this position; they don’t need to clear it with HR. I was told by my potential supervisor that the reason she didn’t call me back right away was because it was her attempt with HR to increase the salary offer… Something seems off about this. If the hiring manager believes you’re worth the higher end of the range, and they’ve known all along that your expectations were at the higher end of the range, HR shouldn’t really have this much say in it. HR would definitely have a say in whether an offer was outside a given range, but within that range, the hiring manager is usually the one making the call. No way to know whether you could negotiate 15K or more on top of the offer. But frankly, with a lowball like this (and it is one), I’d be thinking about whether it makes more sense to just walk away.

If they don’t understand basic math and numbers why would you want to go work there? Sounds like lower edumacation Say they haven’t met your expectations, you assumed such a prestigious school/position whatever would pay more. Thank them for their time and walk. They will either call you back and re-negotiate or they won’t, in which case glad you didn’t take the Wisconsin Badgers Football 2023 It’s In My DNA shirt moreover I love this job waiting for an increase. Be confident in your value. “You want a lot of money, we want to get you for as little as possible. We (HR) expect this. Because of that, always counter. Always. We expect it and if you don’t and accept the low offer, it’s better for us. Just remain professional no matter what” Since that convo, in my career, I have made 5 counters and 3 were accepted. Just be a pro, stand your ground and be ready to walk away if it’s not what you want.
