Again: I was a perfect fit for the We’re Getting Vacation time Bluey Shirt Apart from…,I will love this job. Extremely qualified. And I made sure they had no knowledge of my previous salary. The only piece of information I offered was when I was asked why I was considering leaving my other job, and I honestly answered that “I need to be able to pay my bills!” That was it. Nothing more. PS. Now, we ARE negotiating with someone currently at my institution… It would be quite ironic if YOU are the candidate I KNOW the hiring manager low balled for the position we are hiring for… Small chance, but hey, it’s possible… State that this role for similar organizations locally pays X, and with your experience, would be $——. Ask if offer could be adjusted upward to reflect this, as this is the company that you do want to work for, if the pay can be in line with your expectations. They expect you to negotiate but want to show that they tried to hire you for cheaper. Just be careful to not offend anyone with a poorly worded negotiation.

Yes they do in the We’re Getting Vacation time Bluey Shirt Apart from…,I will love this sense, career growth and promos are very slow in higher education since a lot of these institutions are at the mercy of state funding. I would probably ask for a counter to the amount you want and potentially strategize what you want to be making 2 years from now. Another thing to consider is most state agencies actually have salary published online. If you can find a similar occupied role, you can do a comparison that way as well. Mercy of state funding? The tuition rates they charge students is criminal- nevermind the hidden fees and other BS they charge students as well. They definitely can afford the salary, they just want as much profit as possible. Nah, I would at least say “I’m currently at $93 and I’d like to be at $100.” They’ll probably say no but at least ask for it. tell them the minimum number you’ll accept and be polite but firm to communicate to them that there’s no point negotiating back and forth. This will save yourself time and stress.
