Because a £2 beer or 50p/£1 coffee makes you feel like you’re actually getting £7-4 in value included in your £40 haircut, so they can up it from £30 and you think you’re getting a good value. It’s like all those included perks of a subscription to something. I’ve had £8 cuts at splash that…well my hair was definitely cut afterwards!

Currently sat in a barbers. £18 for a haircut. I still come here despite 3 cheaper places on the Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Comet Canadian former professional ice hockey signature T-Shirt But I will love this street because they don’t speak to me and don’t fuck it up. I feel like £18 is high, but then it takes 20-30 minutes and they have a shop to run, so perhaps it’s actually cheap? And they take card. £18 ain’t high in London. I always give £20 note and feel that’s totally fair for a 30 minute haircut from a good barber. In Clapham/Fulham they’re charging £25-30 easy The trick to being bald is going to the gym- muscles take away all the attention from your head (and my head is massive, so trust me on this one lol). Doesn’t it make sense that if the barbers are paying for all the same inflated goods we are, that their prices might just go up? I was away from London for a few years from just before the pandemic begun. Upon returning haircuts were the most instantly recognisable sign of inflation. £9 plus a couple tip was what I paid nearly everywhere in Chiswick before, now I’m doing well to find it at just double that. Barbers deserve a fair wage too. They provide a 30 minute service for you. Hopefully do a good job. Why wouldn’t you want to pay them a fair wage? Rent, products, towels, cleaning, waste, it’s all part cost. There is no reason to accept exclusively cash unless you’re dodging taxes. The bank handling fees for cash is similar to card fees so that can’t be a reason for not accepting card.
