This was the Warning am a Godzilla trapped human body shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this original reason though it has been loosely pegged to the dollar at a rate of around 4,000 since the 1990s, and the peg has held. It hasn’t had any more inflation in the last 25+ years. The American dollar has been the global standard for a long time. I went to Honduras, and could pay with US cash, or my US credit card anywhere except for the street vendors. Apparently, Russia and China are trying to make a new global currency, and they might be able to do it. But, for now, the US dollar is standard almost everywhere. The US Dollar is absolutely not “standard”; to the extent that you might be able to convince people to accept it in a lot of the world, in most cases it’s only going to be at an exchange rate that absolutely soaks you to account for the hassle to them of accepting it. Unless you’re visiting a country with a sketchy unstable currency, you’re always better off using the local currency. Credit cards convert to the payment currency, you aren’t paying in US Dollars, you’re paying in the local currency and your bank is doing the conversion for you. This reminds me of Bulgaria, despite being on the euro, mainly used their own currency. I could go on about the wackiness of 5hat country… This is why our foreign presence, ESPECIALLY our financial presence, is one of the most valuable assets our country has. Here inside the US, we vastly under appreciate how the rest of the world views us.

However, it also benefits them because they can give you a slightly unfavorable exchange rate back in change, earning them a little bit more per transaction. As an unofficial currency? Probably not. People want $1 bills. They are rarely using larger denominations. (This is based on tourist experience, admittedly, not a academic research or lived experience in daily society.) If you meant to encourage adoption in the US, I think it’s too late. Consumer preference to pay with cash is lower than it was even five years ago, and mobile transfers are chipping away at person-to-person cash payments. The data is basically the same in Canada, where $1 and $2 bills were discontinued and replaced with coins in 1989. One dollar is an amount that a lot of transactions can take place it and if they don’t have enough dollars, they can break it with local currencies. Once you go above $20 most of the time, you’re emptying out the reserves of smaller places, so it’s not transacted as much, and the bills survive longer. So, no advantage in a coin $20 over a bill $20 The US dollar is the official currency of both El Salvador and Ecuador, they don’t have their own (El Salvador also recognizes bitcoin as an official currency.) You’re right though, the durability of the coin is a big reason people in Ecuador like it. Dollar coins are everywhere in Ecuador.
