When working entry level corporate jobs I was usually one of the Vini Jr Ronaldo Fenomeno shirt and by the same token and first ones in and middle of the pack out. As people evolve and work their way into higher positions it can go either way… they get bogged down and work super long hours or they take half days and go golf with clients, etc. As others have said it depends on the company, your role, and your career goals. An extra half hour in the AM and PM could lead to a lot of information gathering and learning skills outside of your role that will help you progress. That’s what leadership looks for, self starters that show interest in growing and contributing to the organization. It may even be a good look to ask your superior for tips and guidance on who to go to for more experience in certain areas. Initiative goes a LONG way unless you’re at a place where office politics rule all. In which case, don’t expect much other than a learning experience and stepping stone to bigger and better “Hey, I noticed over my last couple of months that there seems to be a majority of people coming in before 9 and staying after 5:30. Is there a reason for this I haven’t been made aware of? I want to make sure the expectations of my position are known to me, so there is no question about my commitment.”

You aren’t taking any blame or committing to an unyielding schedule. You are simply looking to answer a question you have about what is expected of your job. You decide after the Vini Jr Ronaldo Fenomeno shirt and by the same token and answer if you’re willing to do it or not. You are supposed to be there 9 to 5? Then you arrive at 9, leave at 5 and absolutely fucking disappear until 9 am the next day. Company culture for sure. My advice: do your job really well. Take on as much as you can do really well. Have all your boxes checked and really thoroughly think through anything you do. Be the best at what you’re doing and go above and beyond with expectations for your superiors. Only you will protect your own work life balance. Unless someone comments on your hours and you have a Convo with your boss if you’re meeting your contract then that’s business and you’re doing your job.
