That’s very true. They were the UPS makes me happy mickey mouse shirt and by the same token and precursor to leggings as pants when leggings were still mostly under dresses/tunics. They were so comfy! I had two pairs that I kept for a couple years after the trend died. I saved them to wear when it got unbearably hot in the summer and I didn’t care on those days what I wore. They felt so breezy and cool. Not even just skinny, a type of skinny shaped in one specific way. It was such a narrowed down sense of fashion that we had skinny girls stressed about the distribution of what little weight they had. I was a size XS back then but had a very stubborn little belly pouch (thinking back, it was actually cute and very feminine). Low waist anything was a NIGHTMARE for me – it either squeezed my belly in half, squishing my bellybutton and creating the worst muffin top ever, or sat underneath it, making it seem like I had a pregnant belly. Both were extremely uncomfortable.

The only upside of that stupid trend is how it got me into wearing more dresses and skirts, which are wonderful. Yep! I was a chubby but curvy pear shape with thick thighs, a big butt, and a small waist. I was called “thunder thighs” in middle school. Fast forward to current and my body type is suddenly trendy BUT THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. lol
