When I was a kid (granted 20+ years ago) there was a shitty dollar theater the Ultra-Mega Anti Joe Biden T-Shirt Besides,I will do this next town over. It was old cult movies and/or movies that had a week or two left in their run. I’ve always kind of wondered why movie theatres don’t do this automatically. Just keep lowering the price lower and lower. An empty seat doesn’t make any money. I know there’s a risk in harming the perception of value in your product if prices become too low, but there has to be a middle ground. The studios must be restricting that. The movie theaters just want you in the door, they make 10-50% of their profits on a ticket. Second run theaters discount tickets. The reason first run theaters don’t discount is because they just drop the film when demand tapers off and replace it with newer releases. What about matinee pricing? Tickets are 20% less before a certain time at my AMC for this very reason and is pretty standard at theaters. They do it because the theater during matinee hours would be empty if there was no discount. It makes the theater more money in the long run. But for a sold out movie premiere on a Friday night, there’s no way they’re discounting even the worst seats. They want to charge more for the middle seats and make more money. It’s a business like most others that only really cares about profit. Do you know why they get to release it to streaming only a little over a month after being in theaters? Just seems so quick.

Concessions are the profit center where you make like an 80% margin.
